Bioinformatician & Biotechnologist — Brisbane, AU
Master of Biotechnology student at the University of Queensland, researching hot spring metagenomics at the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics. Working across the full stack — from HPC pipelines and KEGG metabolic analysis to PCR, nanoparticle synthesis, and peer-reviewed publications.
Experience
Performing full HPC-based metagenomic pipeline analysis on hot spring datasets — from QC and assembly to MAG recovery, DRAM annotation, and KEGG metabolic pathway analysis. Bioprospecting for key metabolic processes under Dr. Paul Evans.
Developed and evaluated three end-to-end metagenomics pipelines for clinical interpretation, selecting a final workflow and building accompanying tools for deployment.
Designed and executed experiments across three research projects covering sulfur nanoparticles, metabolic flux analysis, and lipoprotein lipase inhibition. Co-authored two publications.
Skills
Projects
Full HPC pipeline from raw reads through QC, assembly, binning, MAG recovery, DRAM annotation, and KEGG module completeness analysis. Outputs include interactive heatmaps via heatmaply.
A beginner-friendly terminal user interface (TUI) tool for SNP and Indel variant calling, written in Python. Designed to make variant calling accessible without sacrificing flexibility.
Curating large-scale process data to build a comprehensive database and ML model for determining protocols for somatic reprogramming and iPSC-derived cardiac cell maturation.
Investigated the impact of sulfur nanoparticles on glucosinolate secondary metabolites in drought-stressed radish, aimed at biofortification. Led to a peer-reviewed publication.
Sequential extraction and characterisation of oleo gum resin; evaluated inhibitory activity on recombinant human lipoprotein lipase. Published in Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology.
Investigated gene expression of the L-glutamate pathway under drought stress in Raphanus sativus, providing insights into nitrogen metabolism and fertiliser optimisation strategies.
